The 2009 Dodge Nitro seems larger than life with its macho fender flares and mad dog grille, and that’s the way Nitro owners like it. After all, who wants to drive an SUV that looks like every other SUV on the road? There’s literally nothing else like a Nitro!
The 2009 Dodge Nitro has the swagger of a rodeo cowboy and the attitude of a drag racer. It’s the kind of vehicle that gets noticed and prompts a lot of questions like, “Where did you get that rig?” No other SUV comes close to its expressive styling and few can match its overall flexibility. A Dodge Nitro as a family car? You bet! The kids will love it, and you’ll love features like Dodge’s Load ‘n Go™ cargo floor that slides out to form a table capable of supporting 400 pounds. Try finding that on another SUV!
This midsize SUV uses traditional, truck-type construction, is smaller than Dodge’s Durango and shares its basic design with the Jeep Liberty. Nitro has the muscle to match its macho looks. Nitro’s maximum towing capacity is an impressive 5,000 pounds, and it includes a unique Trailer Sway Control system. The trailer tow package consists of heavy-duty engine cooling, power-steering cooler, receiver hitch and connector and full-size spare tire.
For 2009, Nitro gets a revised suspension and braking system tuned for responsive handling and confident stopping power. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, an antiskid system and curtain side airbags.
Also new is Dodge’s UConnect® information, entertainment and technology package. UConnect® consists of five major capabilities: tunes, GPS, wireless phone support, web access and information access. With voice-activation technology, touchscreen capability and a 30-gigabyte hard drive, UConnect® allows you to effortlessly manage your music, wirelessly connect with friends and family with Bluetooth-enabled calling and get real-time, turn-by-turn voice and traffic guidance. Even enjoy the entire family of SIRIUS satellite programming including over 130 channels of radio and real-time traffic. While the standard CD/AM/FM sound system is good, you can specify an awesome Infinity premium audio setup with eight speakers plus a subwoofer, linear drive magnet technology and 368-watt DSP amplifier. For an extra boost of power, an available 115-volt two-prong outlet in the rear of the center console provides 150 watts of power to your laptop computer. There is also a standard 12-volt power outlet located on the instrument panel.
The key to understanding Nitro is its flexibility. Its styling is all about having fun, and its capabilities are all about getting a job done. Nitro provides the flexibility you need to carry it all. From a full-size basketball team of five to the team trainer and everyone’s equipment, the Nitro really hauls. The fold-flat rear bench is accompanied by a standard fold-flat front passenger’s seat. The second-row seats also recline for added passenger comfort. The Nitro has 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear. With the backseat folded down, that space increases to 65.2 cubic feet.
Equipped for family vehicle duty, Nitro offers stain-resistant fabric seating (and optional perforated leather), the ingenious Load ‘n Go™ cargo floor (with tie-downs to help keep things secure), a rear cargo bin, lots of integrated cupholders and a cavernous center console. Speaking of power, Nitro comes equipped with power windows (with one-touch, express open and close), power door locks with remote keyless entry and heated, power mirrors, and you can even have an optional power sunroof.
Nitro packs a powerful one-two punch of capable engines and slick transmissions. Plus, you get the industry’s best Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. For maximum power, choose the R/T’s all-aluminum 4.0-liter V6 with 260-hp and a stump-pulling 265 lb/ft of torque. Matched with a five-speed AutoStick automatic transmission, you can shift for yourself or let Nitro do its thing. You can also go with the standard 210-hp, 3.7-liter V6 with 235 lb/ft of torque powering the Nitro SE and SLT working with a four-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and part-time four-wheel drive is available. The EPA estimates a Nitro with the 3.7-liter V6 will get 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Even the 4X4 Nitro with the larger V6 gets 20 mpg on the highway and matches the 16 mpg estimate in the city.
For 2009, the Nitro’s larger V6 gets a retuned exhaust note, and all Nitros get a stiffer rear axle shaft. The shocks, springs, anti-rollbars and steering have all been retuned, offering (along with the stiffer axle) an improved ride.
Nitro is well equipped to protect its passengers. Standard are dual-stage front and side-curtain airbags. Active safety systems include antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system with rollover mitigation. A standard “smart key” immobilizes the engine in the event of a theft attempt. There’s an optional parking assist that consists of a sonar-based warning system with audible and visual alerts.
The 2009 Dodge Nitro is an explosive package of fun and a blast to drive. The fun begins at $22,685 MSRP. If you like what you see, you should treat yourself to a test drive. Give us a call toll free, at 1-877-681-5021 soon.
